Against my expectations, last Sunday on World Animal Day, ‘my’ Holly Blue emerged. Due to a very busy week with visitors from abroad and because I was convinced that the chrysalis would hibernate (see my blog from 2nd September), I did not check it earlier. Unfortunately I was too late for the transformation process but just in time to catch the fresh female butterfly. She flew into my garden where a lot of Ivy is flowering at the moment….as my visitors are still here I had no time to check if other Holly Blues emerged too or if she is only the lonely.
Maybe this will be the last taken butterfly picture of 2015; although I’m not sure as I found a lot of caterpillars of the Large White on the broccoli plants (what’s left of them). In contrast to caterpillars which I found in august, now more than 50% of the caterpillars are parasited.
