Thymelicus lineola - Essex Skipper - Zwartsprietdikkopje - Schwarzkolbiger Dickkopffalter
The uppersides are bright orange with black margins; in the male there is a conspicuous black streak (the sex brand) in the centre of the forewing. The underside of the forewing is orange with a greyish tip, while that of the hindwing is orange with a heavy dusting of greyish scales. The underside of the antennal club is black. The Small Skipper is almost identical but can be distinguished by the orange underside of the antennal club. Flight from May to August in a single brood. Lives in grassy places. The larval foodplants are various grasses.
