Lasiommata maera - Large Wall Brown - Rotsvlinder - Braunauge
The male upperside is brown. The female upperside is also brown but the post-discal area of the forewing is always orange. The eye-spot commonly has two pupils. The hindwing is brown with three or four orange-ringed eye-spots. The fringes are clearly chequered brown and white in both seces. The underside of the forewing is orange with broad geyish-brown borders, while the underside of the hindwing is mottled grey and brown with six yellow-ringed eye-spots. Flight from May to September in one or two broods in open woodland with plenty of rocks and bare ground. The larval foodplants are a wide range of grasses.
