Boloria titania - Titania's Fritillary - Titania's parelmoervlinder - Natterwurz-Perlmuttfalter
The ground colour of the upperside is orange with dark spots. The margins are frequently solid brown or black with chequered fringes and the submarginal spots are triangular. The underside of the forewing is pale orange with large black spots, yellow mudges around the outer margin and often some prominent brown marks near the wingtip. The underside of the hindwing is rust-coloured with a broad cream or yellow band across the centre and two or three pale spots at the base. The balck submarginal marks are stronly triangular and often exxtend inwards to meet the post-discal spots. Most specimens from the Alps have a strong purple tinge to the underside of the hindwing.
The flight is from June to Autust in one brood. The butterfly prefers light woodland and flower-rich forest clearings in higher (mountain) areas. The main larval foodplant is bistort, but violets may also be eaten.
