Favonius quercus - Purple Hairstreak - Eikenpage - Blauer Eichenzipfelfalter
The ground colour of the upperside is sooty black, with a deep-purple or violet iridescence visible from certain angles. This sheen covers almost the whole of the male's upperside, but in the female it is confined to the basal region of the forewing. The underside is silvery grey in both sexes, with a dark-edged white streak on each wing and some small orange patches near the slender black 'tails'. Flight from June to September. The larval foodplants are normally oaks.
