Gonepteryx rhamni - Brimstone - Citroenvlinder - Zitronenfalter
The upperside of the male is brilliant yellow with just a small red spot on each wing. The underside is paler, with a brown spot on each wing, and when the butterfly is resting with its wings closed it looks remarkably like a leaf. The female is greenish-white on both surfaces and even more leaf-like a rest. Flight from June to September and again in the spring after hibernation. The larval foodplants are various Rhamnus species. They are among the first butterflies to wake in the spring but they can survive well into June or July and often fly with their offspring.
