The upperside of the male foreing is largely orange, with wide brown borders containing a few pale spotes near the tip. There is a conspicuous black sex-brand near the middle of the wing. The upperside of the hindwing is largely brown with an orange flush an paler spots that often run together. The upperside of the female is warm brown, with pale spots and an orange flush. The undersides of both sexes are largely olive-green with silvery-white spots, the spots on the hindwing forming a stronly curved an often V-shaped row towards the outer margin. Flight from June to August in a single brood. The larval foodsplants are som fine-leaved grasses.
