Zerynthia polyxena - Southern Festoon - Zuidelijke pijpbloemvlinder - Osterluzeifalter
The ground colour of the wings ranges from cream to deep yellow, often with white on the undersides of the hindwing. The black spots vary in intensity. The underside of the forewing has two prominent red spots in the cell an another red spot beyond it. The upperside of the forewing has nog more than a small red spot close to the front margin and sometimes no red at all. The blue spots near the edge of the upperside of the hindwing are often very small or absent. Flight from April to June in one brood. The caterpillars feed on birthworts especially the Round-leaved Birthwort. It's found southeast France (Provence) and Italy and eastwards to the Czech Republic and the Black Sea.
