Teutoburger Wald - Germany
The Teutoburg Forest (German: Teutoburger Wald) is a range of low, forested mountains in the German state North Rhine-Westphalia (and a small part in Lower Saxony). The forest covering an area of about 250 km2 (length is 105 km and width between 2 and 2,6 km).
Since 30 years I pass through the Teutoburger Wald (and Weserbergland) at the highway A2 on my way to Berlin. In 2012 I visited this area during one week early springtime and I was impressed by the variation of birds and flowers.
The first evening I met a fox which was jumping around to catch mouses and in a small creek in the centre of Altbeken I saw a Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) which was hunting/walking under water and feeding his brood. The forest, the fresh colouring of the beeches, was impressive and I tried to reflect the awakening of nature and the expression of trees. It’s amazing how old some trees are and what kind of stories they would tell if they could.....

SPRING GALLERY:
Unfortunately one week was too short and I missed the flowering of the Wild Garlic plains. In the meadows around a lot of flowers were growing (like orchids) which will turn the meadow into a paradise for butterflies. As this area is a paradise for nature lovers I returned for one week again during autumn 2012.
AUTUMN GALLERY:
In my Blog I wrote some stories about my encounters in the Teutoburger Forest (select the category). The accommodation 'Waldhaus St. Georg' is surrounded by nature; unfortunately it's not available anymore. On its yard also the bees and their owner are living; if you like to learn more about bees and honey and you are able to read in German please look at Bienen auf dem Knochen.
Last but not least, the 'owner' and mouse catcher of the yard:
