Var - Provence Verte
The Var is a department in the Provence in southeastern France with a lot of characteristic villages; it's the region between the Provence-Alps and Côte d'Azur. It takes its name from the river Var, which used to flow along its eastern boundary ( but the boundary was moved in 1860. The Var is bordered on the east by the department of Alpes-Maritimes; to the west by Bouches-du-Rhône to the north of the Verdon River by the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, and to the south by the Mediterranean Sea. The Var has a slightly warmer climate, is drier and sunnier than the Alpes-Maritime, but also less sheltered from the wind (comparing to the Luberon). During my stays in the spring season I found a lot of butterfly species and other magnificent 'little' wildlife and some orchids. Like in the Luberon the Hoopoe and the Golden Oriole were present next to a lot of Eurasian Jays.
