Coenonympha pamphilus - Small Heath - Hooibeestje - Kleines Wiesenvoegelchen (Heufalter)
The uppersides, never seen at rest, are bright orange with narrow grey borders and a small eye-spot near the tip of the forewing. Dusky patches may show through from the underside of the hindwing. The underside of the forewing is orange with grey borders, a yellow-ringed eye-spot and sometimes a yellowish post-discal streak. The underside of the hindwing has a greyish-brown basal area and a paler outer region, spearated by an irregular, pale post-discal streak. Flight from April to October in more broods. The flight is rather erratic and rarely far from the ground. The larval foodplants are various grasses. This butterfly rarely visits flowers.
