Mercantour
The Mercantour is one of the seven national parcs in France and located in the northern Provence region, along the border with Italy. The characteristics of the Mercantour are large river beds and valleys, rough mountains, lakes, lovely villages and a wide range of flora and fauna. It's a very diverse area and a lot of butterfly species can be found in the Mercantour....and sometimes an old rusty french car.
Together with the Palinka club I visited the Mercantour for (only) one week in July in 2018. The first morning after arrival was very disappointing as it was hard to find any butterfly at 2000m. On lower places we found the first butterflies like a fresh Marsh Fritillary. During the week we found 55 butterfly species and the last day we noticed the first emerged butterflies like an apollo. Probably I will return soon (in 2019) to the Mercantour.
