Butterflies in the Vosges
In 2017 I bought a house in France with 4000m2 land in the forest of the Vosges region. A large part of the land is water surrounded by bushes and trees. A perfect habitat for a lot of animals like fishes, birds and snakes. The path next to my house is overgrown by brambles. In June (when the brambles are flowering) this path attracts a lot of butterflies.
Because of its open and wet character the place is attractive (also for breeding) to a lot of butterfly species; until now I counted 49 species.
A few hundred meters away, between 2018 and 2021 I visited regularly during the summer months a wild meadow in which I found other butterfly species. Unfortunately this meadow is since 2022 in use by a horse owner and he mows it mid June.
