Lycaena hippothoe - Purple-edged Copper - Rode vuurvlinder - Lilagold Feuerfalter
There are several races or subspecies in Europe. The male upperside is a gleaming flame-red with dark brown or black borders and a distinct purple sheen on the front edge of the forewing and on the rear half of the hindwing. The female has an orange forewing with a wide brown border and a smoothly curved row of brown spots. The hindwing is deep brown with an orange submarginal band. In all forms the underside of the hindwing is grey with the usual sall black spots and there may be a faint or incomplete orange submarginal band on the haindwing. Flight May to September. The larval foodplants are Common Sorrel and Bistort.
