Heteropterus morpheus - Large Chequered Skipper - Spiegeldikkopje - Spiegelfleck Dickkopffalter
The upperside is dark brown with a few small yellow spots on the forewing. The underside of the forewing is brown with yellow markings near the tip. The underside of the hindwing is largely yellow with large black-ringed white spots. Both sexes are alike except that the female has chquered fringes on the upperside; the male has no more than a faint chequering towards the front of the forewing. Flight in July in one brood. The larval foodplants are various grasses including Purple Moorgrass and Common Reed. A very local and endangered species.
