Melitaea varia - Grisons Fritillary - Alpenparelmoervlinder - Bündner Scheckenfalter
The ground colour of the upperside is a rich orange-brown, overlaid with a dark-brown network, the female is often paler. The underside of the forewing is orange with black spots and yellow lunules around the margin. The underside of the hindwing has a prominent silvery-white band through the centre. Flight from June to August in one brood in montane grasslands from 1800 to 2500 m. The larval foodplants are plantains and gentians.
