Papilio alexanor - Southern Swallowtail - Zuidelijke Koninginnenpage - Alexanor Schwalbenschwanz
The ground colour of the wings is brighter yellow than other swallowtail species and striped. The base of the forewing is bright yellow and the dark band hindwing has a continuous blue filling.
Flight from April to July in one brood, emerging is spread over a long period. The larval foodplants are various umbellifers especialy Seseli montanum. This species occurs locally in the Alpine foothills of the Provence, Italy, Greece and the Middle East. It is threatened with extinction elsewhere in Europe and has already disappeared from many places.
