Harz - Germany
The Harz region has a length of 110 kilometres and a width of 35 kilometres and it is the highest mountain range in northern Germany. The highest mountain is the Brocken with a peak of 1141 metres to which leads an old steam railway line. Due to the climate (lower temperatures and heavy rainfall) the rivers were dammed in the past. As the Harz is geologically diverse and the remains of mining are visible everywhere. The German Border ran through the Harz and some signs and museums are redirect to this period in history.
I visited this area in spring 2011 and in autumn 2015 and probably I will come back as this area is very diverse and there is so much more to visit/discover.
