Melanargia galathea - Marbled White - Dambordje - Schachbrett
The ground colour of the upperside ranges from chalky white to cream with a chequered black pattern. There is a black patch at the end of the cell in the forewing. The underside of the forewing resembles the upperside, although usually a little paler and it has a small eye-spot near the tip. The underside of the hindwing is white, often with a strong yellowish tinge in the female. The outer band contains serveral eye-spots and has a break in space. Flight from June to August in a single brood. The larval foodplants are a wide range of grasses.
