Cevennes
The Cévennes are a part of the Massif Central; they run from southwest to northeast with the highest point being the Mont Lozere (1702m). The Cevennes is a maze of deep valleys with winding rivers like the Jonte River and Tarn River and hill slopes covered in forests of sweet chestnut. The Cevennes includes some high limestone plateaux (called Causses) shaped by centuries of farming and grazing, and an architectural heritage of both small buildings and monumental ensembles.
I visted the Cevennes in 1997 and was impressed by the amount of butterflies which I found in June. The second visit was with the 'Palinka Club' in June 2016.
