Creek recovery - Beekherstel - Kleine Beerze
The Kleine Beerze is a creek in the southern part of the Netherlands (Noord-Brabant) with a total length of 15 km; the creek starts in Duizel and end up in the Beerze (bigger creek). As the Kleine Beerze streams through agrarian area it was almost totally channelled until 2008....fortunately at that time we had a Government which financially supported the Nature/Creek Recovery Project 'Beekherstel Kleine Beerze'.
The straight course of the creek changed into a more natural course with flood plains.

As nature returns very quickly, in the summer of 2010 a small group of Highland Cattle was released into this area to prevent that the creek become overgrown. In this chapter photo’s will be added frequently.
In 2013 an other part of the Kleine Beerze was unchanneled.

Unfortunately in 2019 the Highland Cattle did not return from their wintering ground after people had complained about them. I miss these big fluffy 'cows'. As the amount of insects is declining in this area I 'm not a regular visitor anymore. In 2020 I visited this area more often again during the butterfly and dragonfly season but the amounts are worrisome low!
